You might remember from my posts on our trip to California that J’s birthday was a few weeks ago. A birthday tradition he started when moving out here was doing a sunset hike up Mount Si. It’s one of his favorite hikes in the area (check out our last Mt. Si hike here!), and I was excited to get to do the sunset hike with him this year! Since we were out of town on his actual birthday, we did the hike a week later, and wow did we have the perfect night for it.
We left after work and headed out to the trail. It’s a 4 mile hike to the top and our goal was to make it up around 8:00 so we’d have some time to watch the whole sunset. The trail was much greener than I remember from our hike last September!
I love how tall and straight the trees are!
Most of the hike is through the forest, but close to the top you can start to see the view!
At the very top there are a lot of rocks to scramble up to find the best view.
This view of Mt. Rainier nearly took my breath away. So gorgeous!
And the views just kept getting better as the sun started setting.
I could not believe how clearly you could see Seattle in the distance.
One of my favorite shots of the night.
What a great birthday celebration!
We could even see the Space Needle!
And then we began the trek down using our headlamps! We made it down in about two hours, and got home around midnight. Pretty great Tuesday!
If you’re up for an adventure and don’t mind hiking with headlamps or flashlights, I highly recommend a Mount Si sunset hike.
