Our big hike along the Highline Trail and through Swiftcurrent Pass really took it out of us, so we had a pretty low-key day 13 of our road trip planned. We’d splurged again on a pretty nice hotel room in Kalispell, so our plan was to take our time driving back along Going-to-the-Sun Road and enjoying the views of Glacier National Park one more time, then get some rest!
Here’s the view from our campsite that we woke up to!
We stopped one last time at Logan Pass and decided to try to hike out to Hidden Lake Overlook. “It’s only 3 miles!” we thought. “We can walk 3 miles!”
Ha.
We very very slowly hobbled along the path, wincing and laughing at ourselves every time we had to climb up a few stairs. We were so sore from that 15.5 mile hike yesterday! There also ended up being several patches of snow that we had to cross, which we were not expecting, so that was interesting with very weak legs.
We were surprised by this adorable mountain goat family near the lake!
It was a beautiful view from the overlook, so we were glad we’d pushed ourselves to do the short hike. The trail continues another 1.5 miles down to the lake, but it was closed because of bear activity in the area. J’s dream was to see some bears catching trout in a river, so he was partly upset that it was happening right below us but we couldn’t go see! But let’s be honest, there’s no way we would’ve made it all the way down there and back anyway 🙂
After the hike, we drove back through the park, stopped for lunch at Lake McDonald Lodge (and a nap by the lake), and then continued on to Kalispell. We made sure to get a picture with the Glacier National Park sign on our way out!
It was a pretty relaxing day, which we definitely needed after that hike. We had one final day of our journey left, and we were excited to get to Seattle!
