Hood River, Oregon

in Oregon, Travel on 25/01/16

When visiting Mount Hood, the Columbia Gorge, and Portland, Oregon, make sure you also add Hood River to your itinerary! This cute down on the Columbia River is full of great wineries, breweries, and places to eat. Check out this travel guide to find out the best places to go on your next Oregon road trip.

Hood River is the perfect place to stay while visiting the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood. It’s located just an hour east of Portland, along the Columbia River Highway. We stayed in Hood River for two nights on our Oregon road trip, after spending time in Portland and hiking Multnomah Falls.

After our day in the rain at Multnomah Falls, we were ready to relax! Hood River did not disappoint. It was dark by the time we arrived at our Airbnb place the first, and we were amazed to wake up to this view of Mount Hood right out the window!

Our first stop of the day was up to Panorama Point to get this amazing view of the Hood River Valley and Mount Hood in the distance to the south.

And to the north, you can see Mount Adams.

Where to Eat

We ate at Doppio Coffee and Ground, which are both excellent coffee shops in Hood River.

Boda’s Kitchen is another great option for lunch or dinner. They have a great selection of sandwiches, wraps, soups, and salads, with local and seasonal produce.

Wineries

The Columbia River Gorge is home to more than 40 vineyards and wineries! After some coffee and breakfast at Doppio, we set out for a day of winetasting.

We chose Naked Winery first because of its’ great location in town, and of course the intriguing name! The wine wasn’t our favorite, but some of the names gave us a laugh!

Next up was Cathedral Ridge, which ended up being our favorite! Can’t beat wine tasting while staring across the Columbia River at Mt. Adams! We joined their wine club and now get a few bottles shipped to us every 2-3 months. The price is great and their wine is delicious!

We headed for Mount Hood Winery next. The weather was perfect for sitting on their patio and enjoying the gorgeous view of Mount Hood!

Our final stop was at Wy’East Vineyards. We loved the horses next to their patio!

Breweries

Wineries not your thing? Don’t worry, Hood River has plenty of breweries, too! We ate at Full Sail Brewery after our day of hiking Multnomah Falls, and we highly recommend it. They’ve got a great view over the Columbia River Gorge, and it’s the perfect place to relax after a fun-filled day!

Double Mountain Brewery is another excellent choice in town. They have great pizza, too!

Solera Brewery is located about 20 minute south of Hood River and has an amazing patio with a perfect view of Mount Hood, along with great beer and food.

We loved our stay in Hood River. It is the perfect location for a place to stay while visiting the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood. Have you visited Hood River? What are your favorite things to do?
