If you’re looking for a relaxing beach-side hike, consider heading to Ebey’s Landing. It’s a beautiful hike along the bluffs of Whidbey Island. To get there, drive north about 40 minutes from Seattle to the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal and take the ferry to Clinton on Whidbey Island. In the summers this ferry can get very busy, so check the schedule here and plan to get there early. From Clinton, follow WA-525 N to Coupeville, then turn left onto Ebey’s Landing Road.
We started the Ebey’s Landing hike from the parking lot at the end of Ebey’s Landing Road, which is right next to the beach. Another way to access the trail is from the Prairie Overlook trailhead across from the Sunnyside Cemetery. We loved starting out right by the beach, and it was probably about 4 miles total, out first along the bluffs and then back across the beach.
The trail starts out with a gradual incline up to the top of the bluffs. Absolutely amazing views looking out on the beach below!
Here’s a shot to the east, away from the water – lots of farmland.
After a couple miles, the trail turned and began a switchback descent down to the beach.
And the hike ended with a stroll along the beach.

I highly recommend this hike if you’re looking for something non-strenuous and just want a relaxing walk along the water. Make sure you check out some of the great wineries in town for the perfect end to the day!
