Channel Islands Snorkeling

in California, Travel on 04/06/15

After several hours of kayaking, we stopped for the day and put on some wetsuits to go snorkeling. The water was so cold, even with the wetsuits, and we almost got out after only a few minutes. We ended up convincing ourselves to at least swim out to a section of kelp by one of the docks, and I’m glad we did!

It was beautiful underwater!

We saw a lot of these cool purple sea urchins

and this Orange Garibaldi fish was one of our favorites! (It’s also the state fish of California)

J kept diving to get a closer look, and this guy would hide under a rock, then when J gave up and swam away, he’d come back out and chase after us.

After about a half hour our fingers and toes were frozen, so we headed back in to change and do some hiking! Check out our hike to Potato Harbor here!

Amazing, vivid photos. At first I thought you meant the Channel Islands between Britain and France, but then I noticed your blog is about the Pacific Northwest.
